Well Nikki's mom flew in from WI this afternoon to help out with the kids in the hospital. Nikki is doing well and resting tonite with Sam and Chris. I was able to get away and get home for a night of much needed rest before heading back to the hospital.
An update to Madie's condition: About an hour or so after she was born she started having difficulty breathing normally(not uncommon for Premies). She was admitted to the NICU at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. She has a condition known as RDS or respitory distress syndrome. She was initially placed on CPAP ventilator system to assist in her breathing however she was still working very hard to get the needed oxygen in her lungs. It was decided by the Pediatricians to place a breathing tube and feeding tube in her airway and into her stomach. She remained on the ventilator for nearly 24 hours with some improvement. She was also given some essential protiens to help the lungs expand and contract much more easily. She was then taken off the ventilator and is back on the CPAP and is doing much better. Keep Mom, Sam, and Madison in your thoughts and prayers for continued health and improvement.
Nikki sends her love to all who have called and visited. Thanks to Dana for being such a great friend and helping us out when we needed you. Thanks to Darren and Jeanne for bringing us some much needed nourishment(Portsmouth is a great hospital, but like the ship, the food sucks). Enjoy the pictures. Here are a few more!!
